Brand New Start Gallery

cultivating art and culture in the north london community

Brand New Start (BNS) is a collective of creative professionals with a shared vision to develop and improve society through cultivating an active and long-lasting network of talented people, and enabling better conditions for arts and culture to flourish.

Jonny Harnett, BNS founder and long-time respected resident of the N8 area, is a carpenter, upholsterer and antique restorer by trade, and an enthusiastic singer, artist and film-maker in his spare time.

In 2006 Jonny was running his busy workshop just off Hornsey High Street. He invested in some live music performance equipment and setup a space in his warehouse unit where people could play music together and enjoy the company of positive people in an environment of free expression. Through witnessing the sheer love and enjoyment that was garnered in this creative space, Jonny realised the importance and absolute necessity for a community to have a venue where its members can go to connect with other people, share ideas and create things of beauty.

Jonny currently has a space next to the Garden Shop on Hornsey Hight Street with a team of creative and pro-active individuals who are passionate about developing it as a cultural venue with the interests of the community at heart.

Currently the shop has eight volunteers who give of their time and energy to promote the arts in North London. They are hoping to move to a larger premises in the near future. In the interim they are expanding the shop from within and hope to run a series of workshops that teach creative skills to people, as well as running a tea garden. They would like extend a sincere thanks to the garden shop next door  who have gone out of their way to help them with everything.

Francoise Nichole Art Work

NORTH LONDON ARTIST –  Francoise Nicole

Franchoise Nichole grew up in North London and started off  her creativity in the fashion world studying at The London College of Fashion.
She graduated from a BTEC in Art & Design and an HND in Fashion Design specialising in embroidery.
She’s also done short courses in fashion, photography and silk painting as well as a year in Printed Textiles at Middlesex University.
She loves using a wide range of techniques for her art mostly depending on her mood and how she sees the pieces coming together in her sketchbooks.

RECENT PROJECTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Brooklyn

The image titled Brooklyn is a mixed media piece that was done as part of The Limited Edition Sketchbook Project for Art House Co-Op in New York. Her sketchbook is on display in the Brooklyn Art Library and this image was published in the book for this particular project (The Sketchbook Project Limited Edition – Volume 3;Thread and Surface).

Misconception and Misconception two  are photos from  her first London Exhibition at Curious Duke Gallery in April 2012 as part of their Misconception exhibition. Two of these silk screen prints were also exhibited there in July as part of their Art In Flux exhibition.

‘Amy’ was donated to the Amy Winehouse foundation

Amy is a mixed media collage of Amy Winehouse that was donated to the Amy Winehouse Foundation.
